Mosiac Technique

Where does time go? I haven't had a chance to share these cards yet from last week! We made this card at my Technique class - this technique is stamped mosaic! I Love how cool it looks with the boat from the Open Sea stamp set! I also used a nautical color scheme of not quite navy, crumb cake, white and cherry cobbler.

To make the "mosaic effect" I cut up some of the extra rubber that comes around your stamp sets when you get them (I had some old ones I had saved) and stuck it onto a wood block (scrap from hubbys wood shop). THis gives you a "mosaic" background stamp. You stamp this over your image with Versamark ink and emboss with clear ink -- then fill in between the spaces by sponging (I used crumb cake but I've seen this technique done with a darker color too).

stamps: Open Sea, Essentials
ink:Night of Navy, crumb cake, cherry cobbler, versamark inkpaper:Night of Navy, crumb cake, cherry cobbler, whisper white
big shot: chevron embossing folder,
3" and 3 1/2" circle bigz dies
other: 2 1/2" Circle punch, sponge, clear embossing powder, bakers twine, rubber scraps, wood block, 1 1/4" circle punch

Mosaic Birthday Card!

Here is a birthday card using a cool technique- mosaic! For those of you coming to my class this thursday we will be making a card similar to this one (I changed it up a bit and used colors and different paper since the Sale-a-Bration paper is no longer available). This is a fun and easy technique and is a great way to use up paper scraps!

Here is a close-up so you can see how the paper is embossed between the "tiles" of paper.

stamps: essentials
ink: raspberry ripple
paper: raspberry ripple, pacific point, baja breeze, 2 sided sticky paper, sycamore street designer paper (SAB)
big shot: Vine street embossing folder (SAB)
other: button, bakers twine, oval punch, dimensional, silver embossing powder & heat gun.

Celebration card

I can't believe Sale-a-bration is almost over! Wow has this month flown by... don't forget you only have a few days left to spend $50 and get a free stamp set. I used one of the ones you can choose, Feeling Sentimental, on this card. I love the sketchbook feel that the Ferris Wheel drawing has. I made this card really simple, just the wheel and the word celebrate. Then I ran the cardstock through the big shot with the embossing folder just half way over it to emboss just the top.

paper: pacific point, crumb cake, very vanilla

Pretty Petites card

I've been sick with a bad cold this week so haven't had much energy to stamp-- and you know I'm sick when I was home for two days and didn't even touch a stamp! Luckily I found this card that I made last week and haven't had a chance to share yet!

This is a simple design that I think I copied from somewhere….. Pinterest maybe? in a vertical format but I changed it up a bit --made it horizontal and did my sentiments a little different. I added the happy birthday over one of the squares of patterned paper and then the for you underneath in the white space. It's fun to leave some white space on a card - it gives it a nice, modern feel.

stamps: Pretty Petites(SAB)
ink: Tangerine Tango, Rich Razzleberry
paper: Whisper white, Rich Razzleberry, Sycamore Street Designer Paper (SAB)
big shot: fancy fans embossing folder
other:  Petitie curly label punch (SAB), dimensionals, bakers twine.

A Sketch Challenge!

One of the things I want to do more of this year is creative challenges - It took me until February to get into my stamping groove but I'm on a roll this week! Somehow I've found lots of time to stamp and I'm having a blast. Today I'm sharing a card I made for the Mojo Monday blog - they post a sketch every week for inspiration and although I've been following the blog for awhile this is the first time I've played along!  Here is the sketch:

And here is my design:

I used the stamp set By the Tide from Stampin' Up to create this card! I wanted to make it a little more masculine so instead of doing a scallop I used the Chevron embossing folder and cut along one edge to give it a fun zig zag edge!  Other than that, I stuck pretty close to the sketch. This was a ton of fun and I hope I have time to do another one soon!!

stamps: By the Tide
ink: early espresso, crumb cake, cherry cobbler
paper: crumb cake, cherry cobbler, Not quite Navy, Baja Breeze, Whisper White
big shot: Chevron embossing folder
other: circle punche, dimensionals, Cherry cobbler seam binding ribbon

Happy Dirtday

Here is a fun little birthday card for a young boy- complete with primary colors! I stamped the truck and the presents (colored using markers) and was happy with how nicely it lined up (thank you clear blocks!). Then I added on some brads in the tire centers and used the chevron embossing folder to make a background that looks like tire tracks!  when I showed this card to my husband he asked "why is it dirt day?" and told me it needed to have dirt… so stay tuned… I did make another one with dirt!

stamps: I dig you
ink: real red, not quite navy, black, daffodil delight, old olive
paper: black, whisper white, daffodil delight, real red
big shot: chevron embossing folder

storybook birthday

I love the feeling of nostalgia this stamp set gives me… it reminds me of looking through the old storybooks on my grandparents bookshelf!  I also thought this would be a fun set to make birthday cards for kids. when I was making the card I'm sharing today, I didn't feel like coloring in all the animals so instead of stamping them in black, I stamped them in three different colors on white to create more color on the card. I think it works --although it turned out a little more in the "boy" realm for colors --  you could use more feminine colors to make it for a little girl too.

stamps: storybook friends
ink: pumpkin pie, old olive, baja breeze
paper: Whisper white, old olive, soft suede, designer series paper stack - brights
other: scallop trim border punch, pacific point 1/8" satin ribbon

Chalkboard Technique

Tonight is my Technique class and I'm teaching the Chalkboard technique. Chalkboards seem to be really hot right now - I've been seeing them pop up all over online in card making and home décor!  This technique is pretty simple but makes a stunning card, don't you think?

Happy Dirt Day!

I don't have a lot of stamps that make good cards for guys and boys so I recently added this one to my collection... I thought it would be perfect guy cards! For this card I started with a daffodil delight cardstock base and added some texture with the chevron embossing folder on gray cardstock... I think it kind of looks like tire tracks! Then I stamped the dump truck filled with gifts and added the happy dirtday sentiment. I love how bright and fun this card is!

twirly birthday!

This is my favorite card I've made with the pinwheel die so far. I love how it looks to add the clouds behind them! It gives it such a fun, light and whimsical look! I made two pinwheels using the pinwheel sizzlit die in the spring catalog. They are made using the print poetry designer paper stack.  Then I simply layered them over a piece of card stock embossed using the Cloudy Day embossing folder.  The sentiment is format he coordinating stamp set, wishes your way.

stamps: wishes your way
ink: early espresso
paper: Very Vanilla, Print Poetry Designer Series paper stack, Gumball Green, crumb cake

Birthday Garden

Have you checked out the new Secret Garden set yet? This set is really nice because it has a matching framelits die - makes is so much easier than trying to cut out your flowers with a scissors!

To make this card I first cut out a white piece of card stock with the Window Frame  Framelits Die and then I stamped the outlined flower from the secret garden set with primrose petals ink. Then I stamped the little orang flower and leaves on a separate piece of white paper  and cut them out with the coordinating framelits dies. I added these on and stamped the "Happy Birthday" sentiment from the Essentials stamp set (also in the spring catalog).

Then I used the Vine Street Embossing folder to make the background texture - this is a Sale-a-Bration item that you can earn for free during the sale by spending $50.

stamps: Secret Garden, essentials
ink: primrose petals, only orange, lucky limeade
paper: Whisper white, primrose petals, lucky limeade
big shot: Secrect Garden framelits, Window Frame Collection Framelits, Vine Street Embossing folder
other: 1/8" taffeta ribbon in only orange, dimensionals
