Gingham Technique

I was going back through my pictures and realized I never posted pix of my last Technique class!  Somehow these cards just slipped through the cracks so I thought I'd post them now.

The first technique we did was the "Faux Gingham" technique… Basically you apply ink to the striped embossing folder with a brayer and run it through the big shot with your paper inside and then turn it 90 degrees and do it again. This creates a cool textured gingham pattern! I thought it would go perfectly with the giant Cherry from the Mouthwatering stamp set:

Of course, when you stamp this cherry, you have to emboss it too using the scented cherry embossing powder!!

Here's a close up of the card:

stamps: Mouthwatering, retired sentiment
ink: real red, garden green, early espresso
paper: Whisper white, early espresso, crumb cake, garden green
Big shot: Perfect Pennats Bigz die (for scallop circle), Stripes embossing folder
other: red grosgrain ribbon (retired), dimensionals, 2 1/2" circle punch, brayer

Flip-flop card with Framelits.

This card technique is something that I learned when I went to the Stampin' Up! Regional in Milwaukee. Seminars like this are always good to learn a few new tips and tricks. This one was demonstrated by Cristy Butzen - you can view the tutorial on her blog here. By using your big shot and the framelits dies in a creative way you can make a fun card that flips open!

To stamp this card I used the stamp set Mouthwatering. I really love this set-- It's so fun and summery! I don't know if this set will make it into the next big idea book and catalog but I hope so…

stamps: Mouthwatering, Fruit & Flowers, You're Cherished
ink: Calypso Coral, Crumb Cake, Early espresso
paper: Calypso Coral, Crumb Cake, Early espresso, whisper white
other: Simply scored tool, Framelits Labels Dies, Big Shot, adhesive pearls

Cherry on top!

Although it's kind of chilly out tonight this card makes me think of summer! I love the bright red paired with lucky limeade and neutrals! To make this card I Stamped the Cherry from the Mouthwatering stamp set on a piece of white and cut it out using the framelits die in the big shot. Then I made a coordinating frame using the next larger size framelit and early espresso card stock. To make the card base, I scored lines in all four directions using the simply scored tool from Stampin' Up! Then I added on a piece of crumb cake (my favorite neutral-- it goes with EVERYTHING) that was embossing using the perfect polka dots embossing folder! Simple and sweet- perfect summer card for any occasion!

stamps: Mouthwatering, fabulous phrases
ink: real red, lucky limeade
paper: whisper white, real red, crumb cake, early espresso
other: perfect polka dots embossing folder, Lucky limeade ruffled ribbon, simply scored tool, Framelits, big shot

Happy Birthday Watermelon

Here is a cool card for summer birthdays! The girls who came to my stamp-a-stack last night all got to make this one! I used the stamp set Mouthwatering from the Occasions mini. It is stamped once on the white square and then again on a piece of white that is punched out... tip: the watermelon curve fits just right inside the 2 1/2" circle punch so you don't have worry about cutting a smooth curve, you can just punch it out!

I also used the fun edgelit die and coordinating folder to create the fun shape along the bottom with river rock card stock.

stamps: Mouthwatering, Fabulous phrases
ink:lucky limeade, calypso coral
paper: lucky limeade, whisper white, calypso coral, river rock
other: edgelits cutting and embossing adorning accents, big shot, polka dot scallop ribbon in old olive,

Stair Step Cards

Another card we made at my fun folds class was a Stair-Step card. These cards are also fun to display! When folded flat they fit in a regular size A2 envelope. For the first one I used the Sale-a-Bration stamp set Fresh Vintage to stamp the main image. I colored the stamp with wild wasabi, marina mist and calypso coral markers. Then I added the "happiness" from the set Fabulous Phrases, punched out with the word window punch and framed with the Modern Label punch. Some ruffled ribbon and bakers twine add the finishing touches!

The next card is also a stair step card but this time I used the set Mouthwatering from the Occasions Mini Catalog. I love the cherry in this set! I added the "sweet" from the Fabulous Phrases set again... If you don't have this set, it's a great one... lots of awesome easy to use words in it! I added some cherries in the background from the fruit and flowers stamp set, just red ink on real red cardstock. I also added a fun border with the scallop ribbon border punch and some red 1/8" taffeta ribbon!

Tri-Shutter card

Here is a card that I designed for my upcoming fun folds class. This is called a tri-shutter card. I used the stamp set mouthwatering for the large cherry and fruit and flowers for the small cherry. I accented the panels with the coordinating sweet shop designer series paper. The sentiment "happy birthday" is from the hostess set Happiest Birthday Wishes.

If you like this card and want to learn how to make it there is still time to sign up for my fun folds class- just let me know if you'd like to join me by March 9th.

Here is what the card looks like when it is closed:

And here is one more close-up view. The last panel is blank so you can write a message to the recipient.

More Faux Tile Cards

Here are a couple more faux tile cards! For this cards I used the large cherry stamp from the stamp set Mouthwatering in the occasions mini For both of these cards I used the same tile technique as the card I posted a couple of days ago here. On these cherry cards I used the clear cherry scented embossing powder from the occasions mini so they smell like cherries too!

Here is a close-up of the large cherry:

I also made a card using the same idea and color palette but this time I use the small cherry stamp from the stamp set Fruit and Flowers which is in the big idea book and catalog.

Here is a close-up of the technique:

stamps: Mouthwatering, Fruit & Flowers, Fabulous Phrases, Happiest Birthday wishes
ink: Real red, old olive, early espresso
paper:Real red, old olive, early espresso, whisper white
other: lucky limeade ruffled ribbon, perfect polka dots embossing folder, scallop ribbon border punch, scallop trim border punch
